To get on stage for the next round in Houston, candidates need at least 2% support in four polls and contributions from a minimum of 130,000 individual donors by August 28th. If you ask Brad Ryan’s aptly named Grandma Joy, she’d say it’s never too late. While Brad was visiting his grandma four years ago and regaling her with tales of the places he’s been, she let it slip she’s never seen the ocean or mountains… and she’s 85 years old! In a spur of spontaneity, Ryan asked her if she wanted to take a trip to the Smoky Mountains with him. She did, of course. That trip turned into a dozen more as the two traveled over 25,000 miles across 38 states, visiting monuments and national parks galore. Grandma Joy finally got to see the ocean, even if it took a lifetime. | Good News Network → | Machete savesDanny Trejo (you probably know him better as Machete) is an action star on the screen and apparently in real life as well. After a car accident in LA yesterday left a little boy with special needs and his grandma trapped in an overturned SUV, Trejo rushed into action with another Good Samaritan, climbing through the mangled metal of the flipped vehicle to pull them away from the wreckage. Maybe the movies are real after all… | Inside Edition → | Night is dayPeyton Madden is like any other kid except for one thing – he’s allergic to sunlight. Peyton suffers from a rare genetic disease (it only affects ~250 people in the US) that doesn’t allow his skin to repair itself after exposure to sunlight. When the sun is up, he can only go outside after putting protective clothing over every inch of his skin. This means he typically is forced to stay inside during the day, missing fun activities many take for granted. The citizens of El Dorado, Peyton’s hometown, took notice and partnered with the National Organization for Rare Disorders to turn “daytime into nighttime.” The whole community showed up to celebrate Peyton with just one catch… it was a total surprise. You can check out his reaction in the linked video. | Good News Network → | | | | | Yuan fixGlobal markets stabilized yesterday after China’s stronger than expected daily fixing of the yuan.
