On Saturday, the official death toll from the coronavirus outbreak reached 811 (with now over 40,000 confirmed cases), surpassing the 774 who died from SARS in 2002-03. All but two of the deaths have occurred in mainland China – Hong Kong and the Philippines have confirmed one death each.

Sharing is Caring
Scientists have long debated the question of nature vs. nurture. A new study from the University of Washington found that altruism – the concern for the well-being of others – can be seen in children as young as 19 months. In an experiment, toddlers were given a desirable snack to see if the child would offer it to an adult in need, even if they, themselves, were hungry.
Over half of the children in the control group responded by offering their food, with those brought up with siblings being even more likely to give – suggesting that altruism could be a learned trait.
Teach A Man To Fish…
After years of steady decline in fish populations around the globe, recent findings show that closely managed fish stocks are recovering from low populations, leading to a rebound in a prominent food source.
The most positive aspect of the research is that some fish stocks at dangerously low levels can be saved simply by limiting commercial fishing to under a certain limit.
The Blind Side… according to MIT Technology Review, researchers have utilized experimental technology to help a blind woman play a video game sent directly to her brain via an implant.
