In a first-of-its-kind study published yesterday, researchers detailed how the sea lions were able to capture footage of the ocean floor in areas that remotely operated vehicles – the typical tool for underwater exploration – are unable to reach. After analyzing the sea lions’ footage, researchers say they were able to map several unexplored parts of the ocean floor off Australia’s southern coast.
