👍 Yes, I don’t have any major criticisms (23%) – "I cannot cross any border to any country and expect to claim asylum or just live there, even with extreme circumstances such as war or persecution. If someone wants to live in another country, they should make every effort possible to do so legally."
😕 Yes – but it doesn’t go far enough and/or comes too late (44%) – "Biden knows that people are increasingly displeased with some of his choices while president so he’s using what feels like a last-ditch effort to try and gain some more support. Where was this policy before, even just months ago when we were funneling people constantly? Seems weird that he suddenly changed his mind on the border policies."
"Because he had 4 yrs to enact this order. He is only doing it now that the election is on the line. We cannot house, feed or support the number of immigrants coming into our country at the rate they have been. We are all going to suffer greatly as a result. Our education system is breaking as it is from it and we are allowing more to enter. We have to shut this down!"
👎 No (21%) – "I recognize that illegal immigration has been a long-standing issue in the US, but I refuse to believe that people are crossing the border just for laughs. A law like this might reduce immigration-related crimes, but denying a bulk of people their human rights in response to the actions of a few really is just throwing the baby out with the bath water. This is like putting a shoddy band-aid over an gaping wound—it doesn't address any underlying issues and, ultimately, doesn't really help."
🤷 Unsure/other (12%) – "This is too complex an issue to be resolved by a single executive order. State and federal policymakers need to share this responsibility, but no change will come as long as this is viewed as a political, rather than humanitarian crisis."
