Immigration Situation

A few weeks ago, an Associated Press story was released detailing the conditions of a Border Patrol facility outside El Paso. This sparked talks that led to the passing of a $4.6 billion aid package to allocate resources towards the border. Now, debate surrounds comments made by Border Patrol agents in a Facebook group, and comments made by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez after touring southern border patrol facilities with other members of Congress earlier this week.

The New York attorney general's office said yesterday that the DOJ has decided to print the 2020 Census without the controversial citizenship question. This comes after the Supreme Court ruled last week that the current justification for adding the question was insufficient, though didn't explicitly say it could not be asked.

Tax tussle

The chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee filed a lawsuit against the IRS and the Treasury Department yesterday, in an attempt to procure President Trump's tax returns. The suit calls for six years of returns, both personal and business, dating back to 2013.

When 23-year-old John Cronin, who has Down Syndrome, graduated high school years ago, he wanted to start a business. He followed his passion for socks, founding John's Crazy Socks with his dad in 2017. The company has since expanded to over 40 employees, 23 of which have special needs, and focuses on giving back to the community - 5% of sales go towards the Special Olympics and other charities. This past year, John became the first person ever with down syndrome to receive the EY Entrepreneur of the Year Award.

Nate Howard was at dinner with his wife when he saw a man laying in the road without a pulse. Knowing CPR, he leapt into action, performing chest compressions on the man until the paramedics arrived a few minutes later to whisk him off to the ER. It turns out the man had Vfib (rapid and irregular heartbeat) and died three times at the hospital (doctors say the survival rate for this situation is 10%) - if Nate hadn't known CPR and acted so quickly, the man wouldn't have even made it to the building alive. Mr. Howard later took to social media to advocate for people to take CPR classes.

After Mr. Williams was evicted from his home in Georgia, he made the tough decision to take his 14-year-old dog Lucky to a shelter, fearing being homeless would be too rough on his beloved companion. As he was filling out the paperwork, Katie Corbett, a shelter staffer who was heartbroken by his situation, posted a plea for help to her Facebook page. Within hours, several community members came forward with donations to help put Mr. Williams in a hotel for a week, and also found a temporary foster home for Lucky. Katie then launched a GoFundMe page to donate to the pair, which has raised $10k since its creation two weeks ago.

Anheuser-Busch InBev’s Asia-Pacific unit will IPO on the Hong Kong stock exchange July 19, attempting to raise as much as $9.8 billion. If successful, it would become the world's largest food and beverage IPO ever, topping Kraft Foods which raised $8.7 billion in its 2001 stock market debut.

Tesla announced yesterday that it set new delivery and production records in the second quarter of this year. The electric car company produced 87,048 cars and delivered 95,200 vehicles - a 51.1% increase over the previous quarter, besting its previous high of 90,700 deliveries set in the fourth quarter of 2018.

Uber Eats is testing a "Dine-In" option that would allow app users to order food ahead of time, track its preparation, be notified of its readiness, and allow customers to arrive, sit down, and eat at their leisure. This test is currently available in Austin, Dallas, Phoenix and San Diego.
