What Happens In Vegas…

The ninth Democratic debate took place in Las Vegas last night, featuring six candidates - Bernie Sanders, Joe Biden, Elizabeth Warren, Pete Buttigieg, Amy Klobuchar, and newcomer Michael Bloomberg.

  • Wealth disparity: Warren and Sanders each laid out their respective plans to institute a wealth tax, with the discussion also focusing on the only billionaire in the race, Mike Bloomberg.
  • Bloomberg attacks: NBC's Debate Attack Tracker noted the former New York mayor was targeted a total of 45 times during the debate, with an emphasis on the confidentiality agreements signed by a number of women who worked for Bloomberg’s company.

 

What’s next?
After the Nevada caucus this Saturday (Feb. 22), the tenth Democratic debate takes place Feb. 25 in South Carolina, then the SC primary on Feb. 29.

National theater chain Alamo Drafthouse has officially launched its Season Pass subscription service following a year of beta testing. Available in all 41 theaters across the country, the program allows users to see one movie a day for a monthly fee ranging from $14.99 to $29.99 (based on location).

Funding Fathers

Founders Fund - an investment firm co-founded by controversial figure Peter Thiel - has closed $3 billion worth of new capital split across two separate funds. The funds are reportedly seeking returns of at least 3x and 5x on deals in excess of $100 million, and will not invest if they don’t believe the return can be met.

According to the latest public filings, large cable and satellite companies lost about 5.5 million traditional pay-TV customers in 2019, an 8% decline.
