Coronavirus: Fact vs. Fiction Part Six

With the coronavirus outbreak dominating recent news coverage, it can be difficult to parse through and identify sources of misinformation. So we’re back with Part Six of “Fact or Fiction,” where we compile a list of frequently asked questions - or inaccurately made statements - and set the record straight (here’s One, Two, Three, Four, and Five):

Warmer, Wetter Weather Will Dampen The Spread Of COVID-19
Unknown - According to the National Academy of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, “studies published so far have conflicting results regarding potential seasonal effects.” Other leading scientists, such as Dr. Anthony Fauci, have advised people not to assume the virus will slow down in warmer weather.

Can COVID-19 Spread Via Mosquito Bite?
No -  Doctors and scientists have said there is no evidence that mosquitoes can transmit the virus.

Is My Stimulus Check Considered Taxable Income?
No - Sometimes an unexpected windfall, such as winning the lottery or certain legal settlements, can bump taxpayers up to a higher tax bracket with a higher tax rate. This is not the case with the stimulus payments, which the IRS says does not count as income and will not be taxed, nor will it affect people’s eligibility for government benefits or assistance.

Antibody Tests Can Prove A Person Is Immune To COVID-19
False - Antibody tests (also called serological tests) can indicate whether a person has had coronavirus in the past and was either asymptomatic or has since recovered. However, the WHO has said there is currently no evidence these tests can show if a person is immune to coronavirus and is no longer at risk of infection, since scientists still have yet to determine whether someone with antibodies is fully protected against having the disease or being exposed again.

Cleaning Products Can Kill The COVID-19 Virus
True - The CDC recommends using household cleaners, such as bleach, or other EPA-registered disinfectants that can kill the COVID-19 virus.
