Challenge Accepted

The Wisconsin Supreme Court on Wednesday overturned Gov. Tony Evers’ “Safer at Home” orders in a 4-3 decision following a legal challenge from top State lawmakers. The court also mandated that the state’s legislature approve all future statewide restrictions.

Going Coast-To-Coast
Several other states have seen challenges to government-imposed COVID-19 restrictions in recent days:

  • Pennsylvania State House candidate Danny DeVito last month filed an appeal with the U.S. Supreme Court challenging Gov. Tom Wolf’s stay-at-home order, though the court declined to take up the case.
  • In California, Alameda County officials late Tuesday agreed to let Tesla reopen its factory under new safety guidelines after CEO Elon Musk on Monday said he was resuming operations at the factory in violation of the local ordinance.
  • Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer faces a lawsuit from top State Republican legislators challenging her statewide stay-at-home order, which Whitmer has extended until May 28.

What’s Next?
Some bars and restaurants in Eastern Wisconsin saw groups of patrons Wednesday night following the rollback of statewide restrictions, while other Wisconsin counties and cities chose to extend the “Safer at Home” orders.

  • Statewide stay-at-home orders across eight states & territories - AZ, DE, D.C., LA, NV, NM, NY & VT - will expire today, leaving 13 states still under some form of total lockdown.

Walk This Way

Ernie Martel (85 years old), Harold Gosseen (99), and Don Varney (78) are Navy veterans and residents of Tiffany Springs Senior Living, near Kansas City, MO. The trio caught wind of a local nonprofit that was struggling to raise funds and decided to come up with a plan to save the day.

Known as the “Three Musketeers,” Ernie, Harold, and Don each pledged to walk one mile per day in exchange for community donations. In less than a week, the trio raised over $400 - and are showing no signs of slowing down.
