September Slumber

Let’s do it to it. 🗞️

Postmaster General Facing House Subpoena

The Democrat-led House Oversight Committee on Monday announced its intention to issue a subpoena to Postmaster General Louis DeJoy to obtain documents related to mail delays and other changes at the USPS.

A deeper dive…
Committee Chair Carolyn Maloney (D-NY) in a statement accused DeJoy, a confirmed Trump donor, of withholding materials requested before and during his testimony in front of the House and Senate earlier this month.

  • Lawmakers raised concerns that operational changes enacted by DeJoy have contributed to widespread delays ahead of the November election, which is likely to feature a high volume of mail-in ballots.
  • In his testimony (video), DeJoy acknowledged recent delays but denied that he initiated changes to the treatment of election mail, which is prioritized as first-class mail.

In a letter to Maloney sent last Friday, DeJoy asserted that his previous testimony had “clarified any outstanding questions” about recent changes, and reiterated that “the Postal Service is fully capable and committed to delivering the nation’s election mail securely and on time.”

What’s Next?
A spokeswoman for the House Oversight Committee said the subpoena would be served on Wednesday.

  • The committee is also issuing a document request to USPS board chairman Robert Duncan (who testified alongside DeJoy), and said it intends to issue a subpoena for those documents if Duncan doesn’t comply.

So… what are people saying?

Trump and DeJoy's USPS meddling isn't over — why are Senate Republicans covering for them?

Be Our Guest

Before the pandemic hit, Tyler and Melanie Tapajna of Parma, OH, had spent months planning an impressive summer wedding, inviting 150 people to the ceremony. In July, with large gatherings strictly regulated by COVID-19 safety measures, Tyler and Melanie resolved to forego their initial plan and instead marry in a small ceremony with close family – the only issue was the pre-ordered catering for more than 100 guests.

On August 15th, following their intimate nuptials, Tyler and Melanie donated the food prepared for their wedding to Laura’s Home, a Cleveland-based nonprofit that provides meals and housing to homeless women and children. The benevolent bride and groom went directly from their ceremony to the nonprofit’s cafeteria and, still wearing their wedding dress and tuxedo, served the residents' meals.
