• A) The British military's Operation Mincemeat is successfully executed. It involves planting false documents on a dead man in uniform and leaving him for the enemy, causing them to deploy elsewhere and clearing the way for an Allied invasion. The plan is inspired by a memo co-written by Lieutenant Commander Ian Fleming, who goes on to write the James Bond novels.
• B) Lincoln University becomes America’s first historically Black degree-granting university. The school would produce many notable alumni, including Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall and poet/activist Langston Hughes.
• C) President Richard Nixon announces plans to release transcripts of 46 taped White House conversations in connection to the Watergate scandal. It comes months after five men connected with Nixon’s re-election committee were caught breaking into Democrats’ HQ at the Watergate Hotel, raising questions about how much Nixon knew.
• D) Great Britain’s Prince William marries longtime girlfriend Kate Middleton at Westminster Abbey in London. Some 1,900 guests attend the ceremony, while another ~1M spectators line the streets of London and ~2B others watch on TV.
