• B) French physician Jean-Baptiste Denis performs the world’s first documented blood transfusion, giving blood from a sheep to a feverish boy. While the boy recovers, two other patients die from the procedure, leading to centuries-long bans on animal-to-human blood transfusions.
• C) Bob Barker steps down as host of The Price Is Right after 30+ years as the face of the show. Fellow game-show host Drew Carey would take over hosting duties a few months later.
• D) King John puts his royal seal on Magna Carta, or the “Great Charter,” following a revolt by the English nobility against his rule. The document, essentially a peace treaty between John and his barons, establishes the principle that everyone, including the king, is subject to the law.
