• B) Soviet Cosmonaut Valentina Tereshkova becomes the first woman to travel into space. She would return to Earth after 48 orbits and 71 hours, having spent more time in space than all US astronauts combined at the time.
• C) Henry Ford and other stockholders in the Ford Motor Company meet in Detroit to sign the official paperwork required to create a new corporation. The company remains one of America’s oldest surviving automakers to this day.
• D) US Senate candidate Abraham Lincoln gives his famous “house divided” speech to the Illinois Republican Convention. In it, he paraphrases a passage from the New Testament—“a house divided against itself cannot stand”—to warn that the mixed legality of slavery among states could destroy the US.

Hint: It was Lincoln's first speech after his nomination for Senate.
