Stela Borbas was on her way to work when she couldn't help but notice a car pulled over on the side of the road.
Stela immediately called 911 when she realized the woman had gone into active labor. She figured she would wait a few minutes until the ambulance showed up to take the family to the hospital to deliver the baby.
As she got the operator on the line, however, she quickly realized that wasn't the case.
"The 911 operator told me to take a deep breath," said Stela. "She told me, 'I need you to deliver this baby.'"
Subtitle here... As Stela tried not to panic, the 911 operator asked her if she had anything in the car the woman could give birth on.
Stela's mind immediately went to her yoga mat.
Stela got the couple situated and their young daughter as calm as she could. The young mother continued to push, but it was clear her energy was fading fast.
A New Friendship... Before being taken away in the ambulance, the proud new Dad gave Stela his phone number. Two days later, she went to the hospital to meet Darlie, weighing in at 5.2 pounds and healthy as could be.
Stela discovered the couple, Tatie and Roche, were immigrants from Haiti who had only been in America for a few months with the dream to create a better life for their two daughters.
"Nobody else stopped or called 911," said Tatie of Stela's heroic actions. "They just kept driving. We believe that God sent Stela to help deliver our daughter. She not only delivered our baby, she is helping us to build a better life for both of our daughters."
The craziest part? Stela's yoga teacher had encouraged her to act with kindness that same morning.
