Registered Kindness

Dollar General employee Emily Duncan was working her typical shift at the register when an older woman came to check out. 

She began chatting with Emily as she rang her up, and continued to talk her ear off even after she was all checked out, with Emily growing increasingly aware of the line piling up. 

• Regardless, she listened to the elderly woman and decided to chat with her as long as she needed. 

📱 Raving recognition... Emily didn't realize the second person in line was professional bass angler Gerald Swindle, who decided to share how blown away he was by her customer service and patience. 

1.7 million views and 19,000 shares later, Emily's kindness was recognized around the globe – and eventually, by Dollar General Corporation’s leadership team. 

• She was rewarded with a plaque, flowers and a $1,000 donation to Vienna Grade School in her name.
