When ten-year-old Ukrainian Valeria Yezhova wanted to find a way to thank her country's army for their protection, she turned to what she knows best: checkers.
She set up a small folding table outside a local shopping center with two chairs, a checkerboard, and a shoebox for donations. Anyone who wanted to play her was welcome.
