Images: Friends of Isaac Food Bank

Over the course of lockdowns and quarantines in 2020, 11-year-old Isaac Winfield grew a heart for helping others. Kind of like the Grinch, but if he actually had a big heart to begin with.

The UK boy was encouraged by his school to bring food and supplies to local shelters. After seeing the effect a simple bag of groceries could have on someone in need, he wanted to do everything in his power to help.

  • Isaac was understandably disappointed, then, when he transferred schools and his new campus didn't have any sort of food bank service.

🤩 If helping others is cool... then consider Isaac "Miles Davis." Even though his new school didn't have a food donation service, he decided to take matters into his own hands, opening a food bank all on his own at only ten years old.

His parents donated the initial funds to help get his food bank off the ground, taking trips to the supermarket to buy food and afterward distributing the groceries around town in the family's van.

  • It didn't take long for the townsfolk to notice the schoolboys efforts. And soon enough, donations started flooding in.
  • "It went mad!" shared Isaac's mom, Claire. "I had to go and get a shed because we ran out of room.”

💼 Boss baby pre-teen... Isaac currently runs a fully-functional, 24-hour food bank out of sheds placed in his driveway. He's also been sponsored by multiple charities in town, and was even gifted a fully paid-off and insured van to help deliver meals to those who can't make it to his home.

  • "For his 11th birthday he just wanted foodbank donations and [the shed] was absolutely rammed," said a proud Claire. "He just wanted to get as many donations in as possible to help as many people as he can.”

🏆 The key to win, it starts within: The middle schooler recently won a local business award, and is hoping to expand his food bank services to a more permanent location in the near future.
