Polar stratospheric clouds only appear when the temperature in the lower stratosphere drops below negative 114 degrees Fahrenheit. A combination of tiny ice crystals in the air and the reflection of the sun, the rainbow clouds only sweep across the sky a few times a year.

🌈☁️ Sharing the rainbow... East Icelandic woman Jónína Guðrún Óskarsdóttir sees the unique clouds most winters – but she knows for many, it may be a phenomenon they never get to experience.
