Anyone wanna buy the movie rights to "Doll House"?

Tuesday, May 2, 2023

When Don Powell opened his mailbox one-day last summer, he was shocked to find two little dolls inside, sitting on a tiny couch next to a miniature table.

“We’ve decided to live here," read a note in the mailbox. "Mary and Shelley.”

🤔 The mystery begins... Don and his wife, Nancy, had ordered a custom mailbox, which was designed to look like a mini replica of their home a few years prior.

  • The mailbox is large enough to fit all of their mail and then-some, and has windows all around the outside. There are even solar powered lights to illuminate the mini home at night. Well-lit, and in a safe neighborhood with a good school district – it was perfect for Mary and Shelley (and any future kids).

🕵️‍♂️ Playing detective... When he first found the dolls, Don went around his neighborhood asking if they belonged to anyone. But no one seemed to know where they came from.

And while he considered tossing them into the trash, Don eventually put Mary and Shelley back in the corner of the mailbox where they were first discovered.

That was just the beginning.

In the following months, more and more tiny furniture pieces started showing up mysteriously in the mailbox.

  • A dog for the tiny couple was placed inside, along with a rug and even some art for the wall. Then came a four-poster bed.
  • Here's the kicker: Don never saw anyone place the items inside.

🏡 Bottom line: Don posted online in a neighborhood forum asking if anyone knew the mystery mailbox culprit. No one came forward – but people started paying attention. Mary and Shelley were suddenly the talk of the town

  • To this day, Don still hasn't been able to find the person who has been furnishing Mary and Shelley's tiny home for nearly a year.
  • “It's very cute," said his wife Nancy. “I get a laugh out of it… it’s a good positive thing, especially during these crazy times."
