When Don Powell opened his mailbox one-day last summer, he was shocked to find two little dolls inside, sitting on a tiny couch next to a miniature table.
“We’ve decided to live here," read a note in the mailbox. "Mary and Shelley.”
🤔 The mystery begins... Don and his wife, Nancy, had ordered a custom mailbox, which was designed to look like a mini replica of their home a few years prior.
🕵️♂️ Playing detective... When he first found the dolls, Don went around his neighborhood asking if they belonged to anyone. But no one seemed to know where they came from.
And while he considered tossing them into the trash, Don eventually put Mary and Shelley back in the corner of the mailbox where they were first discovered.
That was just the beginning.
In the following months, more and more tiny furniture pieces started showing up mysteriously in the mailbox.
🏡 Bottom line: Don posted online in a neighborhood forum asking if anyone knew the mystery mailbox culprit. No one came forward – but people started paying attention. Mary and Shelley were suddenly the talk of the town.
