The real story of Fred again

Images: Linda Taylor

Eighty years ago, Fred Taylor missed his Cornell College graduation. A music major who had completed all of his necessary credits, Fred's time at school was cut short when he joined the Army Air Corps Reserve during WWII. He left for training in February 1943, three months before his scheduled commencement.

This year, though, he's getting a second chance at walking across the graduation stage.

๐ŸŽ“ Here come the grads... Though Fred went on to have a long and successful career as a music teacher, he always regretted not receiving his diploma.

  • Thanks to the help of his daughter and Cornell College, however, the 101-year-old Fred will walk the stage at this year's commencement ceremony to receive his degree โ€“ eight decades after he originally should have.
