The Philippines' women's soccer team is making history, thanks to a new contingency allowing players of other nationalities to join the team as long as the player is of Filipino descent.

With a full team of female athletes – boosted in large part by US nationals – the team recently became the first of any gender from the Southeast Asian nation to play at a World Cup.

😎 One mission... “They all play for the flag, they all play for the country, they all play for the people of the Philippines, wherever they reside," coach Alen Stajcic said at a press conference.

  • The athletes hope their presence on the global scale will help promote both soccer and women's athletics in the Philippines.
