When Southwest Airlines pilot Matthew Prebish volunteered to fly an emergency airlift plane full of animals displaced in Hurricane Helene and Hurricane Milton to shelters in Milwaukee, he had no intention of adopting any of them.
That is – until he locked eyes with Avery, a three-month-old kitten who immediately stole his heart. The pilot is a self-proclaimed dog person, but something about Avery’s “explorer personality” made him immediately want to bring her home.
