Pictured above is a one-in-a-billion occurrence that would make Hercule Poirot jump for joy: a nearly perfectly spherical egg.

  • The egg was originally bought at a Scottish supermarket before being donated to the Luventas Foundation, an English charity that supports young people.
  • It was then placed up for auction and purchased last month by Ed Pownall, who paid $247 for the egg on impulse after having a few drinks. He told the BBC it was "money well spent."
