When an orphaned baby black bear came into the San Diego Humane Society last month, employees had to get creative to make sure the baby didn’t bond too much with humans.
The fix: Donning bear costumes and masks while tending to the cub. This will continue for a decent period of time; the group plans on watching after the cub for up to a year, with the intention of returning it to the wild once it's old and strong enough.
So far, so good. The two month old cub is stable, playful, and thriving, according to the humane society branch.
