Going quackers for sustainable farming

🦆 Every morning, ~1,000 Indian Runner ducks are let loose at South Africa’s Vergenoegd Löw Wine Estate, where they spend the day eating aphids, worms, and snails as a natural alternative to pesticides.

The feathered workforce also pulls double duty by helping break down livestock manure and enriching irrigation water with their droppings.

While the farm started the practice ~40 years ago, it’s now starting to catching on, with surrounding farms starting to purchase ducks and embrace regenerative farming.
