🇩🇰 Denmark passed a law prohibiting the desecration of religious texts. Lawbreakers will be subject to a fine or up to two years in prison for damaging holy texts publicly, or in videos intended to be disseminated widely. The legislation, commonly known as the “Quran Law,” stems from a series of anti-Islam protests this year where activists burned copies of the Quran, triggering demands that the Danish government ban the practice to deescalate the increased threat of terrorism within the country and in Danish embassies in Muslim nations.

🇺🇸🇬🇧🇷🇺 The US and UK accused Russia of a yearslong hacking campaign targeting British elections. In a DOJ indictment unsealed yesterday, federal prosecutors accused two Russian nationals of carrying out cyberattacks and online influence operations targeting UK lawmakers, journalists, and civil organizations in an effort to interfere in local elections over the past eight years. US and UK intelligence officials say the campaign was orchestrated by a unit within the FSB, Russia’s successor to the Soviet-era KGB.

🇷🇺 G7 countries will ban diamond imports from Russia starting next year. The embargo on the world’s largest diamond producer is part of a series of sanctions to curb Russia’s ability to wage war with Ukraine, and will expand to include Russian diamonds processed in other countries beginning in March. To enforce the move, the development of a traceability-based verification system for rough diamonds is underway and set to be completed by September. Diamond producers say the timeline is too short and would damage supply chains when demand is under pressure.
