Do you agree with Congress’ decision to increase IRS funding by $80 billion over the next decade?

👍 Yes (43%) – "The IRS has been underfunded for decades which has clearly hampered their ability to collect taxes owed to the federal government. Their technology is antiquated. Their salary scale has not kept up with private industry. And it takes years to train for some positions at the IRS, especially those needed for forensic accounting on large companies. I worked for a tax CPA for 30 tax seasons. I am aware of the issues with the IRS."

• "Technological upgrades to our tax system are desperately needed at this point, and it's important that the wealthy millionaires and billionaires are audited. A lot of nefarious financial practices can slip under the radar of an underfunded IRS."

👎 No (42%) – "It is a symptom of our overcomplicated, bloated tax system and government bureaucracy that a step like this might be considered necessary. If $80 billion additional is necessary to ensure we’re paying the right amount of tax, maybe it’s time to rethink the system, remove loopholes and simplify the process."

• "$80B is much less than it costs intuit to develop software that they then charge us for. This is software that exists because our taxes are so complicated that nobody can be expected to not make a mistake. Then we turn around and give the IRS $80B to fund finding all those mistakes. The only people benefitting from this are tax professionals. Instead we need to use that money to reduce complexity and find solutions to cut tax professionals out of this process."
