Do you personally consider illegal immigration to be: a crisis, a fairly significant problem, a minor problem, or not a problem for the US?

❗ Crisis (37%) – "The immigration situation is a national security crisis. We have no record of who is coming into our country, what their plans are, and what they are bringing with them (i.e. drugs). It is also a nightmare for taxpayers. The amount of taxpayer money used to protect the border, send the illegal immigrants back & the fund them in every way they are funded (food assistance, free medical care, subsidized housing, etc) is such a waste!"

  • "Legal immigration is not the problem; illegal immigration is... especially for border states. A (semi-)simple fix? Grant Mexico and it's citizens some sort of special status that allows Mexican citizens easy access for visas... but Mexico has to help police the border and cut down on illegal crossings."
  • "We need LEGAL immigration. Policies that encourage illegal immigration are disastrous. Elsewise we are attracting scoff-laws. I'm all for welcoming people of all races, colors, and backgrounds. Just so long as they respect the American rule of law. This is the best way to be assured that new residents understand and respect the rules of America, the same rules that create so much opportunity for all residents. So we need to improve the immigration system to make it easier to enter legally, and to make it less attractive to enter illegally."

🤔 Fairly significant problem (29%) – "We should strive for all immigration to be legal. Not aggressively enforcing our own immigration laws undermines our legal system, creates significant cost for tax payers and creates risks to homeland security. The federal government’s failure to enforce their own laws also disproportionately places significant burdens on border states."

  • "I live in Southern Arizona, I grew up just a few miles from the border with Mexico so I've seen this problem up close. I do think level is okay, but needs to be reorganized. It really is so difficult to enter the US legally because the process is extremely flawed. Trying to fix some of the systemic problems would help. At the same time border patrol (physical agents) still do a lot to stop drugs and criminals from entering the country. Giving those who want to cross just to live a better life, should have a more straight forward legal option, which would decrease the number of illegal crossings of this nature."

🤷‍♀️ Minor problem (21%) – "We need to keep in mind a significant portion of these immigrants are coming from countries that were destabilized as a part of US foreign policy. Meaning we created the problem for ourselves by giving them no hope of living in their home country. The immigration discussion demands more empathy and a holistic understanding of where these problems come from. These are our fellow human beings, and our neighbors. And America’s strength was born of immigrants of all kinds, not just the ones we deem “good enough.”"

🙅‍♀️ Not a problem (13%) – "Without an increase in population of working age, there will be increased pressure on Social Security as the US population ages. In addition, increased immigration allows greater economic growth by filling lower-level jobs and would decrease the inflationary pressure of personnel shortages."
