Do you think Rep. Santos should be expelled from the House?

👍 Yes (75%) – "The assumption is that (at the very least) some people in Rep. Santos's district voted for him based on the information that he provided about himself during the campaign. Since it is likely that the things that he lied about were intended to sway his constituents into viewing him in a positive light, his actions caused people to vote for someone other than Rep. Santos. Instead, they voted for a fictional individual, which should disqualify him from benefitting from votes cast for someone who is clearly not him."

• "Leaving him in office sets a clear precedent that democracy is on its death doorstep. It sets up a whole new reality show for the winner of the biggest liar contest who then gets to rule the most powerful country in the world without any stops and checks to keep it in balance."

"Santos defrauded voters. He is not the person his constituents chose to represent them - he is someone else entirely. Expelling him from congress would show integrity from our government."

• "Because politicians should earn votes through at least a MEASURE of honesty and competency. Outright lies that are easily verifiable by nonpartisan organizations are absolutely unacceptable. As an elected official, he represents his constituents, but he has no ethos - there is nothing to show that he can be trusted to represent anything but his own personal ambition."

"Santos should have the grace to leave under his own volition. He could even do it with Santosian flair – claiming that King Charles desperately needs him back at the Royal Court, or that SpaceX can't live without his expertise in astrophysics."

👎 No (14%) – "If we go down this path, we also need to root out every other liar in politics and oust them from their positions. Politicians lie and twist truths to get donations and votes, they tell people things they want to hear and fully don't intend on doing all the time. This is a slippery slope. Just because these lies have become very public doesn't mean there aren't people who have lied in similar or different ways sitting right next to him."

• "If the people of his district feel duped (I would), let THEM begin a recall effort to oust him. Other House members did not elect him, the voters back in Santos’ district did. They are responsible for Santos being a Congressman, let THEM take him back if they see fit. That’s the process."

🤷 Unsure/other (11%) – "I think that George Santos is not the only example of congress lying for their benefit. If you expel him, it is almost hypocritical since many other congress people lie. I do not condone his actions, but it seems like he is just the only one who has got caught in such an outrageous lie."

• All politicians have lied. If he gets expelled for lying we need to rethink the whole lot of them. If he broke the law and the ethics committee investigation proves it yes he should go."
