In your opinion, should TikTok be banned from every device in the US?

👍 Yes (52%) – "It’s been proven to be a security risk. TikTok collects a TON of data about each user- more even than other social medias. After TikTok’s initial claim that employees in China could not access that personal information on US users, it was revealed that they both could and HAD accessed that data. This is not safe."

  • "It has been proven in the past that the amount of information that TikTok collects surpasses that of even Twitter. Because the company that owns TikTok is based in China, China can leverage harsh punishment over the company if they don't hand over collected information when requested."

"Other apps, like Instagram Reels, serve the same function as TikTok...without the national security risk. Other countries have already made similar moves by banning TikTok from government-related devices. I see no harm in banning an app that A) poses a threat to the safety of our country and B) isn't unique enough in terms of functionality and value-add to warrant the risk."

👎 No (36%) – "I wouldn’t be surprised if Tik Tok is collecting data, but the idea of the government banning all citizens from using something for vague reasons of “national security” seems like a truly bad one. Whether or not it’s the intention of *this* group of lawmakers, at some point, a lawmaker somewhere will use it as a precedent to try ban another app or website, using similarly vague reasoning."

  • "Banning TikTok is a bandaid solution on a much larger problem. Our data is being harvested without consent 24/7, but the only time our government wants to stop it is when China is getting access to it. Instead of banning TikTok, we need real internet privacy protection in place which would stop anyone in China, the US, or anyone else to abuse our data."

"There needs to be clear proof that the Chinese govt is receiving personal information. If that’s the case then ban TikTok. That should be the case with any company, foreign or domestic."

🤷 Unsure/other (12%) – "While a ban on tiktok may be beneficial, this bill does not cover all the possibilities. With so many loopholes, the proposal wouldn’t be very effective even if it was put in place."
