How do you feel about the new EPA guidelines?

👍 Strongly agree (26%) – "I have an electric vehicle and feel it is superior in so many ways to a gas-powered vehicle. Mass utilization of EVs will make the world a cleaner, quieter, greener and less complex place."

  • "We need to reduce reliance on fossil fuels for future generations and to mitigate the effects of climate change. Period."

📈 Agree/Somewhat agree (24%) – "I agree with a strong push towards EVs, but I also see the problems that are not in automakers’ control. If the EPA really wants to support an aggressive switch to EVs, they’re going to have to place requirements/regulations on more sectors than just automakers."

  • "I think in theory this is a great move to help the environment but if we really want this move to be successful we need to ramp up charging stations and make it more affordable for low income households. I’m not sure this can be done by the timeframe proposed which means you will end up with just some angry people."

🤷‍♀️ Neutral (6%) – "Let’s not forgot, a good portion of American energy is created using fossil fuels. I’m no energy expert, but I am not buying that having to charge that many vehicles won’t lead to an uptick in fossil fuels supplying more power to the grid.

📉 Disagree/Somewhat disagree (16%) – "This "solution" ignores all the variables, such as the carbon emissions created during manufacturing, the mining of precious minerals, slave labor, disposal of used batteries, increased reliance on China, the fact that EVs use electricity (duh) effectively undermining emission savings, plus a slew of other considerations that politicians ignore. Typical short-term thinking instead of looking at the various scenarios and outcomes that private industry must consider and take accountability for."

👎 Strongly disagree (28%) – "While there is greater efficiency in going from one car that is internal combustion to that same car that is fully electric, there are so many issues that complicate the matter. At this point in time, every corner in the country has a gas station. In order for the majority of people to have EVs, we would to dig out these gas pumps and replace them with well-functioning fast chargers that, frankly, do not exist yet. That is a bureaucratic and infrastructural nightmare."

  • "Electric cars are great, but that law is not realistic. We must have the structure in place to handle the charging of them. Also it is unfair to the average and below average wage earner who can't afford to buy the newer expensive electric vehicles or have the ability to charge them where they live."
