Should trans girls and women be allowed to compete in women’s sports?

👍 Yes (28%) – "Sports goes beyond the actual game or competition. It is belonging to a group of like minded people who enjoy doing that particular thing. People want to belong to something, anything, that defines them. Why not let them do it?"

• "If trans women were superior athletes to cis women, then there would be a clear performance gap. There isn't a gap. Trans women perform well, but don't always win. The only time someone raises a stink about this is when a trans women wins something, but there never news when a trans women wins second, third, or sixth."

👎 No (50%) – "Male and female's body's are very different, which is why sports are split between the two sexes. Trans women may be women, but they have the physical body of a male making it unfair to the rest of the team, or to their opponents. Sports separate teams by sex to keep it as fair as possible."

• "Someone who is born a male will, because of genetics, have greater lung capacity and greater upper body strength than a person who is born a female. Even skeletal structure is different. No amount of hormones or surgery is going to change that. In sports, those physical differences are why trans women are outperforming cisgendered women. That is not fair."
• "Because males who have gone through puberty are inherently stronger physically, with more lung capacity than cis women. Makes you wonder why we don’t see more women who transition to a male competing on men’s teams if it doesn’t make a difference."
• "Women already struggle to maintain an audience & fair pay for sports on top of the fact that women are genetically not built as strong. Women have always been welcome to compete in men’s sports (which is rare for the reason stated above) but if a transgender woman wants to compete in sports they can do so fairly by competing with men."

🤷‍♀️ Unsure/other (22%) – "I can see both sides to this issue. I am an athlete, and as a female skier and runner, I cannot compete against men, not competitively anyway! However, sports are such a healthy outlet and everyone should have the opportunity to participate. I am not sure what would ensure the competition remains fair and everyone still gets to enjoy sport."

• "It seems like someone who was born male may have some physical advantages. Having a trans female join a female team may need to depend on if there was hormone therapy done. Or maybe it is time for a new category for non-binary and trans people who have not done therapy."
