Do you think the US government should enact stricter reporting requirements for the business dealings of elected officials’ family members?

👍 Yes (75%) – "The presidency is to be held to the highest possible standard as they are elected (and sworn) to represent the people, not become rich or use their office for personal gain or to protect anyone from being held accountable."

  • "As public officials serving our country, politicians should be expected to participate in business practices that show moral integrity. Doing otherwise shows they are merely in their position for power and greed."
  • "Absolutely. I have very, very little trust in any of our elected officials. And there's zero doubt that there are political payoffs. Our political system is a mess and has been for the past decade. I say let the punishments begin."
  • "Especially when it comes to the Supreme Court. This shouldn't extend to just the executive branch, but to the legislative and judicial branches as well. More transparency should exist at the state level as well."

👎 No (11%) – "Honestly, who cares! Your family is not you, and anyone with an extended family would agree. Should I be judged on what my great uncle did to get on America's Most Wanted? No, I have no business with that. Now, I get that it is different if it is your child. But again, anyone with children know that they are independent human beings."

🤷 Unsure/other (14%) – "“Am I my brother’s keeper?” My inclination is that we are electing a president - not their whole family - to office. If the president is nepotistic and appoints family members to government positions, then be stricter. If not, why does it matter, unless strong evidence points to presidential decisions being influenced by close family business dealings?"

  • "Depends on that family members involvement with the family. Everyone has that someone that's a screw up and that shouldn't count against the individual unless they involve themselves with the screw up."
