🔫 Access to firearms (24%) – "As our laws currently exist, there are few ways to mitigate the threat of firearms other than staying in your own home. Most of the other threats listed have means to lessen their impact or likelihood, or to increase your outcome through treatment."
🍺 Alcohol abuse (9%) – "If you trace the other multiple problems affecting Americans, many of the problems begin with alcohol abuse or poor decisions made when under the influence."
🎗️ Cancer (10%) – "The other ones are choices, preventable. By and large, you can’t control whether or not you get cancer."
🦠 Covid (6%) – "The disease is still killing many Americans every single day. We can't become passive in our Covid defense, or it could come back with a stronger mutation."
👤 Loneliness (10%) – "It's worse now than ever before. With grocery pickup and delivery in some areas, online shopping, and various other delivery services, there's no need to interact with a human being even in small town America."
🍟 Obesity (19%) – "Obesity contributes to and often raises people's risk for most of the other diseases/conditions listed here in the poll. If our healthcare system focused on prevention and not just a cure, then more people would be able to make lifestyle changes that would reduce their risks of other things like heart disease, stroke, diabetes, etc."
💊 Opioids and fentanyl (11%) – "Fentanyl is everywhere and seemingly in most drugs you’d buy from a source outside a pharmacy and has been pushed to the top of the list for me. The belief that you’re taking something else, not realizing it’s laced with fentanyl, has affected not only people trying to get high, but students trying to relax with a xanex that’s been laced. Or take an adderall to help them study that’s been laced. An athlete trying to relieve an injury with a Vicodin. All walks of life, all genders, all races."
🚬 Smoking/tobacco products (2%) – "My opinion is based on the high rates of lung cancer in America, which is especially deadly and preventable."
📱 Social media (4%) – "America's obsession with social media is directly linked to mental health issues such as depression, anxiety and suicide, as well as obesity, alcoholism and drug abuse. Many of those who commit mass shootings have mental health issues. Reduce the obsession and the other issues are more likely to decrease as well."
🚗 Unsafe driving (2%) – "Car accidents are consistently one of the most likely ways for young people to die – rather than most of the other options, which tend to affect (kill) older Americans."
📊 Something else/other (3%) – "Mental health. This is influenced by social media and even celebrated. It's almost like it is trendy to have a mental illness. But we don't treat mental illness the same as we used to. We don't put people in treatment centers who need treatment. We just come up with some social justice reason the rest of the world needs to get on their level. And the result is people who are mentally unstable are out in the world, watching others blow up schools and think they are entitled to do the same."
