Which political party’s stance on gender-affirming healthcare for minors do you most agree with?

🔴 Republicans (48%) – "We don’t have much of any good data on the effect of transitioning through surgery or medication on the long term. Until that data is adequate, we need to be more conservative in our approach so we don’t destroy the lives of people that we’re trying to help."

  • "At the age of 55 my values and beliefs are far different than they were when I was a tween or teen. It seems time/money could be spent to develop a solution that is less permanent for minors. I feel it is a tough call for parents whom are responsible for protecting their minors to make the "right" choice."
  • "Studies show that many teens struggling with gender dysphoria settle into their born gender by the age of 18. Allowing kids to have hormone blockers and surgery before they pass the typical (and completely normal) difficulties of being a teenager is a set up for long term regret. I think if a person still wants to pursue medications and surgeries after the body is fully mature, have at it."

🔵 Democrats (39%) – "While I do think there should be some regulations surrounding gender-affirming healthcare for teens (i.e., children/teenagers should be able to advocate for themselves and show that this is a decision that they have put serious thought into), I whole-heartedly believe that these regulations should not restrict healthcare but instead protect access to it. I don't think this is a decision that many young people would take lightly or do on a whim. It's been shown that denying gender-affirming care to young people is extremely detrimental, especially to their mental health. If we claim to care so deeply about the well-being of our young people, then we should absolutely continue to make all healthcare accessible to them."

  • "I can be sympathetic to the argument that people should wait until they are older to make these decisions, but making it *illegal* to undergo treatment as a teenager is too far. It’s cruel to those teens who are suffering and are sure this what they want to do."

🤷 Unsure/other (13%) – "The puberty meds are not only used for gender transformations. My granddaughter started puberty early, at about age 8. Started developing breasts and other things way too early. These meds are used for purposes like this also. Would hope they would not get totally banned."
