Do you think the US should adopt the same regulatory framework for artificial intelligence as the EU?

👍 Yes (72%) – "The potential power of AI is staggering. This is an area we cannot afford to let regulation follow innovation, we need it to help guide innovation. The field will change too fast, and risk of harm too great, to allow the market free hand to develop in this space."

  • "These restrictions would help enormously, especially in digital art communities. Artists complain of different art generators using their own artwork, without their permission, to make their AI models. Disclosing any copyrighted materials ensures transparency that they’re using what they’re allowed to."

"The human brain is fallible. Period. We cannot be trusted to make AI that is supposed to correctly choose what we, as humanity, agree as "good" or positive from a moral standpoint. We barely understand our own brains. Why are we trying to make one that's capable of more than commands?"

  • "There should be an industry standard for what is legal and what is not. Having consistent regulations will help buy some time as we explore the full spectrum of how AI can be used and the consequences of using it long term in various applications."

"The EU framework is a nice start, but we need to go further in the US. For instance, the use of using AI to create or authorize a loan or determine credit worthiness of a borrower; assess a person's performance at work; generate a person's spending profile to target them for advertising without their consent or ability to exclude products; use their personal pictures (whether or not it includes the person) to generate new, fictitious content without their explicit authorization or initiation of the activity. This just scratches the surface."

👎 No (13%) – "Washington should think twice before following Brussels’ notorious habit of boxing its tech industry right before they reach the innovation stage. It’s strange that the those making the tech rules (EU) aren’t the ones leading on tech (US). No wonder Europe doesn’t have a dynamic innovation ecosystem."

🤷 Unsure/other (15%) – "There is so much to unpack here that a short response could never do it justice. While I admire the step by the EU, they tend to be a little regulation happy. (It makes them a lot of money) Despite the new trend of talking about AI as much as possible, it has been around a while and is still in its infancy. I believe we should be careful when it comes to regulating technology that could benefit humanity in the future."
