👍 Yes (87%) – "The odds of getting favorable treatment before the court are better if the party going before the court gives the justices perks. The justices should recuse themselves in matters that pertain to people that give them money. This is the highest court in the land, and they should be held to a higher standard than anybody else."
"The judges, like our esteemed Congress, certainly do not have the moral fortitude to police their own actions. However, like Congress, the code probably won’t be worth the paper it’s written on. There isn’t a body of government that will enforce it."
"It doesn't surprise me that these types of things are happening within the Supreme Court. A large part of those judge's duty is to interpret the law as it is written and various justices on the Supreme Court have found very legal loopholes to operate within. But I think a combination of the states and all three branches of gov't should be involved in establishing the SCOTUS code of ethics. It's a government for the people by the people, so the people need to be involved."
👎 No (6%) – "They ARE the code of conduct. The Democrats and Progressive left just don't like the constitution and are always attacking it and the institutions that have developed over the years based upon the laws of the land, which again they despise!"
🤷 Unsure/other (7%) – "This is tough because while I think a code of conduct certainly has merit, being a SCOTUS member is so different than any other judge/congressional position. These people are called for life (with a few exceptions)."
