Do you agree with the federal government’s new ban on the sale of most incandescent light bulbs?

👍 Yes (45%) – "If we want to do something to change the course of global warming, governments have to start being more harsh on laws regarding the environment. We've learned that just leaving it up to the people doesn't work."

  • "If it uses less electricity, it’s better for everyone. Unlike banning cars and trucks for EVs, which has a very expensive start up, light bulbs are inexpensive and do pay off in a big way. Our electric bill dropped considerably when we switched to LED. We made the money back immediately."

"Hopefully this will spark more competition in the LED industry, filling in the gaps that incandescent lights leave. It is unfortunate that a blanket ban was the solution to this problem, but it is one of many small moves to help our collective energy consumption, an important metric for combating climate change. For one thing, by consuming less energy, we lower the barrier for the amount of power needed in the transition off of fossil fuels to a sustainable energy grid."

👎 No (44%) – "While I agree that LED bulbs are more efficient, I don’t see why the government has to ban their manufacture. If the cost savings are so important to the customer, then production will be simply limited by lack of demand. Not to mention, now taxpayer money will be spent enforcing that fairly ridiculous law."

  • "Our led light bulbs blow out from power surges and other causes long before the stated life span of the bulbs (we date them). So for our household they are a total waste of money. We are better off with the cheaper incandescent bulbs."

"Although I buy almost exclusively LED bulbs for my home, I don't support a nation-wide ban on incandescent light bulbs. The government removing incandescents from the shelves and telling its citizens how they are allowed to do something *so minute* as light their homes feels incredibly 'Big Brother' to me."

🤷 Unsure/other (11%) – "While I agree with the conservative stance in theory, even though it seems government interference is only a problem when Dems do it, I do not think it’s practical. I would love for the government to leave me alone but I also understand that the majority of my fellow Americans have not read a book since high school. We are losing our ability to make choices because we already lost our ability to make intelligent ones without help. Our government isn’t overstepping, it’s turning into a daycare."
