How do you feel about Fitch’s decision to downgrade America’s credit rating to AA+?

😬 It’s a sign of trouble on the horizon (58%) – "Our country is in terrible financial shape. Since Clinton, all presidents have added to the rising deficit but, Biden has been totally reckless with his spending and repeated attempts to forgive student loans which the rest of us will have to pay."

  • "The federal government falsely printing and pumping money into the economy leads to inflation, which begets rate hikes to control inflation, which leads to joblessness and more debt for all with a subsequent recession, which leads to lowering the interest rates, which stimulates the economy in a vicious cycle. If the federal government would have stayed out of it in the first place, this all could have been avoided."

"The downgrade is a reflection of the carelessness with which politicians have handled the "debt crisis." Political posturing have taken precedence over good governing and smart financial choices. There doesn’t seem to be any end to it in sight."

  • "Fitch was not the only one to down grade the US great worthiness. It’s a canary in the coal mine. Massive debt load and poor governance is how the Roman Empire fell. We need to get out stuff together."

"Our country is a mess. Both parties are guilty, but the democrats are just reckless with their spending. Republicans are only slightly better, but they are slightly better. However, they’re so ridiculous socially that it makes it nearly impossible to support them. I am truly worried about the future of our country right now. We’re so worried about ridiculous, minute things, and meanwhile, we’re destroying our children’s future."

🥱 It’s not really a big deal (20%) – "The downgrade should not impact the financial markets. It is based on information that has been known and is not new information."

  • "They are not wrong in their commentary and there could be problems ahead that need dealing with and the political posturing on the debt ceiling is ridiculous, but the US will not default on its debt and everyone knows it."

🤷 Unsure/other (22%) – "I don't know much about Fitch or the other two credit rating agencies but if their assessment of this country's credit has been a perfect AAA since 2011, it sounds like an arbitrary designation to placate people. This country is in shambles financially and we are trending to have INTEREST COST as the biggest line item in the budget within the next few decades?! That deserves at least a D, not an AA+."

  • "I don't know what amount is political discourse vs what amount is belief that the US policial system is unable to make the necessary corrections."
