In your opinion, what is the ideal working setup?

🏢 Fully in-person (17%) – "I experience both work types before the pandemic. There is no doubt that my attention span is severely impacted when working from home. Too many distractions that pulled me away from work, especially those tasks that I was procrastinating on already. There were just too many other things that I would allow myself to get pulled into... The energy is missing, people don’t share well because of fear of talking over of each other so ideas get lost, and we say a lot with our body language that can’t be seen on a call – all of that is lost with remote work."

  • "When teams are located in a regional/local area, being together in one physical location will always promote a tighter, higher performing unit. The side discussions, water cooler discussions, over hearing a conversation, body language, and more are invaluable and lead to stronger teams."

🔀 Hybrid (61%) – "I like my hybrid set up. It allows me to be in the office enough to build the personal connections to remind me of the human-ness of work, but the days I am at home allow me to focus on projects without distractions. It's a perfect balance really."

  • "I am benefitting from working fully remote in a state far away from my home office. I do think arrangements like this should still be allowed and possible. However I need more human interaction. I’m single and don’t have a robust network, so having opportunities to interact with others are not open to me."

"Hybrid encompasses a huge range of options. Personally as a worker bee (on the ground, not a manager) the flexibility of telework has changed my life. Professionally, it made my job a lot less engaging. There's a balance to hit with scheduling, and I think it's going to be different in every office."

  • "Some topics are better addressed in person but working from home is a better life balance and leads to better use of time. Some jobs like mine have downtime where I can use my time for other tasks such as throw in a load of laundry. That ability to use my time for personal things allows me to be more committed and motivated to get my work done. Thus, I’m more willing to answer emails outside of regular business hours, etc."

"I work fully in the office right now and can't stand it. Sometimes you just need space to focus and I work in an office where I don't have my own space so I get super distracted. If I could work in a hybrid set up, I'd be able to socialize and brainstorm with coworkers, but get my ish done when I need to. I'd also feel like more of a human."

🏡 Fully remote (22%) – "Teams are rarely in the same location. Adapting to the realities of modern productivity is in everyone’s best interests. Productivity assessments and concerns are a function of management. Clear responsibilities, clear goals, and clear communication lead to better outcomes regardless of proximity. I’ve worked remote for 15 years and won awards for my productivity."

  • "As someone who has to commute to and from work every day, it really saps your energy sitting in traffic for an hour and a half both ways. Additionally, long periods of sitting is bad for your health (it leads to a decreased lifespan), and a work from home setup can be more ergonomic than an office cubicle."
