Should Trump be disqualified from public office under the 14th Amendment over his actions on Jan. 6, 2021?

👍 Yes (61%) – "There are real responsibilities that come with holding public office, especially POTUS. Trump has demonstrated no interest in acting in the interest of the American people, only in the pure interest of himself. He has broken the law and abused the power of his office. The 14th Amendment is clear and should disqualify him – and all who assisted him – from public office."

  • "I think we need more non-career politicians in office, but Trump is simply too divisive. This country cannot handle another Biden/Trump matchup and hopefully if we get Trump off the ballot that would open the way for a more moderate candidate to provide options outside of Biden. We need a fresh face and new agenda in the White House."

"Remove the names of the party and individual, and focus on the actions. Failure to accept the election result with zero evidence of tampering, encouraging others to seize power, lying about everything. You wouldn't let a kindergarten child get away with that, let alone a politician."

  • "If Congress needs to authorize a lawsuit, then they should. While Trump may not have been physically leading the charge on January 6th, his actions prove that the only interests he has at heart are his own. I don't want a president who isn't wiling to at least try to see how the other side thinks and instead continues to push hate-fueled rhetoric in our country."

👎 No (28%) – "If we start legally saying some people are unable to be on the ballot while others are without a standardized and set procedure, it can't easily become a tool that both sides use to persecute their political enemies."

  • "Although Trump has been indicted 4 times, he has never been charged with insurrection, much less found guilty of it. So until that happens I don't think applying the 14th amendment would stand in court. Avoiding putting the opposing candidate on the ballot because you think he's guilty of insurrection does not sound like the kind of thing that should happen in a democracy."

"I voted the way I did because I know there is election fraud, and although Trump is an egghead and should have shown more wisdom during his time in office, he was and is better at running the country where it matters most of all, economy and foreign policy than the current crooks that are stealing out nation’s future."

🤷 Unsure/other (11%) – "If he hasn't been convicted of insurrection, then he must be presumed innocent until proven otherwise. However, waiting on the legal system to do its job while the whole political system continues to operate seems foolish. Unfortunately, we don't have a conviction yet, and I don't want to set a precedent of being able to just decide someone is guilty and then acting on that decision in significant ways."
