👍 Yes (42%) – "My husband is a disabled Navy veteran who has had a concealed carry permit for many years. He opposes open carry because those people don't have to pass the tests that concealed carry permit holders have to do. He compares open carry to anyone driving a motor vehicle without a driver's license while licensed drivers had to pass all the tests."
"As a non-American I find the insistence on a "right" no other country has a painful demonstration of an ideology that values that "right" more than the lives of children, women, and especially men (the most common victims of gun violence). I'm all for the courage of one's convictions but I'm not sure this is one worth the cost. The countries with strict gun control laws, e.g. New Zealand, Australia, Canada, Norway, Denmark, etc. are not lacking in any freedom the US enjoys."
👎 No (44%) – "It's not going to stop a mentally ill person or a criminal from using a gun in those 30 days – only law-abiding citizens. It also takes away responsible people's right to self-defense."
"While I do feel for the people who have lost loved ones and/or people who are suicidal, this is a clear violation of the Constitution. Like it or not, there are clear rights that the people of the United States have been given, and this is an overreach by the local government."
🤷 Unsure/other (14%) – "We need more information about the statistics of those crimes using guns. Where the crimes committed by someone who had obtained the firearm legally, and had a legal license to carry it? Were the crimes or situations the crimes occurred in due to the fact there was a firearm present, or with the absence of the firearm what is the likelihood of a crime still being committed. Although the "go-to" in these situations is to blame firearms (and I partly agree, more regarding open carry than ownership), where often times it seems a larger investment or focus on mental health and more societal/culturally based issues (suicide, mental "disabilities", etc...) play a larger role in the actual crime."
