In your opinion, how should the US approach immigration?

"Legal immigration is good. It doesn’t typically make a huge strain on society. Illegal immigration is what needs to be halted or slowed. I can’t move to Mexico without the proper paperwork, and they shouldn’t be able to walk in to the US without the proper paperwork."

  • "1) Revamp the wall, and make it better than before. We need to control our border, and we unabashedly do not, at this point. 2) Change the immigration process, which currently takes far too long and is incredibly expensive, into something more manageable. 3) Assist our neighbors in getting their ish together; we wouldn't have these problems if there weren't such violence and poverty from which to flee. Obviously, this is a much bigger ask, and a much more nuanced bullet than the other two."

"I find it amusing that cities and states that denounced southern areas as "racist" or "unwelcoming" are now throwing up the white flag. Though it seemed like Abbot was pulling a stunt, maybe he needed to do it to show what border towns are dealing with on a daily basis. Clearly, we need to allow fewer immigrants into the US. All of our services and schools are being overwhelmed by people in need of great assistance. It's not sustainable."

  • "While America has a terrible history of being welcoming to populations in need that are migrating, these populations have a great history of making America a better place for everyone. Let’s change our attitudes from fearing the change that immigration imposes to embracing the opportunity. The data shows that immigrants enter the workforce, do well in school, start small businesses, and in one generation use fewer government resources that average. America needs to remember what is written on the Statue of Liberty and turn what looks like a negative into a positive."

"The key word here is LEGAL, which means there's a US entity approving the migration of these people into the country. I fully understand there are people who need to get out of situations they are in in other countries, but the US cannot be the soft landing spot for the rest of the world, legal or not, when we continue to prove we cannot adequately care for our own citizens. The logical and very quick answer is to stop approving visas in the numbers that we have been. Get rid of the visa lottery and limit the number of family-based visas any citizen can petition for in a given time period."

  • "I used to work for the USBP. The fence was working because it deterred the illegals and traffickers in those areas and it funneled the immigrants to safe places to cross. We need to go back to the original plans: Close the borders, build the fence, add more check points for asylum seekers, put in more transfer stations, use more technology (such as drones), bring back horseback patrols, and hire more officers. Let's start saving lives, protecting Americans and women and children, and cut down on sex and drug trafficking once and for all."
