In your opinion, what role should the US play in the ongoing Israel-Hamas war?

Deploy troops and aid to assist Israel in combat (13%) – "The Muslim nations have as a stated goal to destroy Israel to the point of not existing. That is contrary to every value any humanitarian governmental body stands for. The US as a champion of free societies and justice should do everything it can to stop that."

Deploy troops and aid as a deterrent, but stay out of Israel (19%) – "It’s highly possible this war could widen with neighboring countries and factions hostile to Israel. That would be disastrous and if we can help prevent that outcome it’s in our own best interest as well as the world. I don’t approve of the deployment of our military in other countries unless it’s a narrow mission to rescue our own citizens."

• "I think this is the best option to keep our troops safe that are already in the Middle East, and also to protect US troops from more bloodshed."

Send military or humanitarian aid, but don’t deploy troops (18%) – "I believe military and humanitarian support is needed in such a monumental conflict from one of the world’s predominant nations. However, I believe the funding required to deploy troops — which should be an absolute last resort in conflicts in which the U.S. is not directly involved — could be used for pressing domestic issues."

• "It's not our war to fight. It does not directly affect the safety of US citizens at home and therefore we should not lose American lives. We've learned that lesson from the Cold War. By sending aid to Israel, we still are supporting them without the cost of American lives."

Focus exclusively on humanitarian aid (26%) – "The war has been raging for centuries and I don't believe our involvement will end anything between the waring parties. Humanitarian aid for BOTH sides is an act of humanity."

• "Israel is only able to unleash this much carnage on Gaza and Palestinians due to the billions upon billions of dollars in military funding it receives from the US. For us to continue to aid them militarily is adding insult to injury. Doing so also gives Israel the green light to continue to bombard Palestinian homes, razing their neighborhoods to the ground without any repercussions."

Stay completely out of the conflict (16%) – "With the U.S. 2023 Federal budget deficit that surged 23% to 1.7 trillion I don't think we can afford to support anyone (not even ourselves) in a war. Not to mention the United States has it's own issues that we need to focus on before helping anyone else."

Unsure/other (8%) – "I’d prefer if military aid were used only in defense against incoming attacks, and that America would engage diplomatically to facilitate de-escalation. Humanitarian aid is necessary. Providing military support for Israel and humanitarian aid to Palestine feels like a contradiction, though."
