✋ Keep the current system (15%) – "Darkness until mid-morning would be terrible! Perma-DST has already been tried, it was a failure... why is our government unable to learn these lessons from the past?
🌇 Permanent DST (44%) – "I prefer the later sunrise/sunsets, because in the morning most people are headed to work and have to stay indoors for most of the day. The later sunsets would allow me to still spend time outside and get sunlight and fresh air."
"Later sunrise & later sunset will keep people more active later in the day when businesses are still open which would boost the economy. Also, who wants it to get dark at 4pm? Not me! For those people heavily affected by light, they will be in bed by 6."
🌅 Permanent standard time (31%) – "I am a teacher and the safety of our children waiting in the dark for buses or driving to school as a new driver on dark rural roads is a lot more important to me than making a few extra bucks. The amount of hours of sunlight in the day do not change, so maybe our mindset should change to be more active and productive earlier in the day."
"I personally prefer more daylight in the morning because my evening plans or moods have never been affected by how much daylight is present but it has a big impact on the mornings and I've noticed my kids saying things about how dark it is in the morning recently too. They don't want to get up for school when it's dark, I don't want to get up for work, and our mornings are tougher but things still start at the same time."
🤷 Unsure/other (10%) – "I honestly don't care which is chosen, I just want to stop the madness. I've taught elementary and now middle school, and while the time change is hard for adults, it's brutal for students. Pick a time - standard or daylight savings - and let the country stick with it."
