Do you think the US government is doing too much, too little, or about the right amount when it comes to climate change?

⬇️ Too much (25%) – "The government is pushing us towards EV’s to cut out fossil fuels. The current electric grid is marginal at best. The government doesn’t seem to be taking any major steps to improve our current system. It takes electric energy to charge an EV. That power comes from providers that are relying on coal for the most part to create the electricity. So are we really going to be helping when we put more EV’s on the road, charging on an already overloaded electrical grid. The push towards EV’s is too much at this point in time."

  • "Until India and China as well as other counties cut back on “emissions”, the US impact is statistically insignificant and has little impact on global warming."

"The 1930's were warmer. Consensus of scientists is not a valid metric -- that only means the majority could be wrong. The same could apply to the several thousand scientists who signed a letter stating that there is no evidence that the climate is changing beyond natural cycles. So, until there is actual evidence that this is a true problem, it must remain in realm of conspiracy and a government power grab."

⬆️ Too little (57%) – "The US government has not done enough, nor plans to do more, for the climate change or global warming initiatives. Several sectors need to be addressed to make substantial changes to the current climate crisis. From industries that use massive amounts of fossil fuels to accessibility to alternative transportation, America is contributing more to climate change than ever. Yes, there are small changes in which types of vehicles we drive, the type of energy we consume, and the amount of waste we produce. But these are not coming from the government; they are coming from eco-conscious individuals. The government needs to address climate change with policy changes and direct action."

  • "What they're not doing is putting enough pressure on China. Their numbers are astronomical, and I don't know how anything can be accomplished without their commitment. Beyond that, it's going to take a lot of cooperation among industries and politicians, and sadly, I don't see that happening."

"I have never understood all of the negative attitudes on initiatives to curb global warming--I don't understand how many see the idea of reducing emissions as a bad thing. I think nationally and globally we treat nature and our planet callously--what is the harm in trying to reduce our carbon footprint? Why is is such a terrible idea to want to alter habits for the benefit of the posterity of our planet? It has always irked me the way that people become up in arms about initiatives geared at helping our natural environment."

  • "The heat records we keep breaking is largely due to the historical emissions left by Western Countries during the Industrial Revolution so it's no use suddenly pointing fingers at China or India just because they are high emitters now. That's arguably our fault too because we are the ones who gave them the blueprint for mass energy production, and we made no meaningful attempt to skip them over fossil fuel use. We are enough to blame for this that we should be doing much, much more to advance green energy solutions and help them be accessible to all countries. This is a global problem, it would be a bad idea to hoard the solutions for economic advantage. Many other smaller countries will be hit much harder, much sooner than the United States."

👌 About the right amount (18%) – "China is the problem. While we are producing more emissions than Europe, we also have plans in place that will take affect over the next few years that will help reduce emissions. We also have a different lifestyle to than Europe which leads to more cars/trucks on the road. Perhaps if we changed how we transported goods, this might help us reduce even more."

  • "I would like to see us care less about protecting investments and really push for new clean energy producing technology. American higher education is second to none and more grants for clean energy could really help drive advancement in the space. A space that needs to become cheaper and more reliable. Also, perhaps we could provide some protections for companies that have invested in fossil fuels. It’s America’s ability to produce them that has saved our economy numerous times over. Moreover, this could help alleviate some of the contempt for clean energy. I don’t think people love to burn fossil fuels, it’s just they are unsure of the reliability of clean energy and the fact that they have so much invested in oil and gas. Such a big change with such high stakes will inevitably be a slow one to adopt."
