Do you plan to buy or sell a home in the next year?

👍 Yes (21%) – "I would love to own a home. My wife and I make more than double the US average household income, live in one of the cheapest states, and are pretty good with money. If buying a home is a dream for us, I hope that those less fortunate are doing okay. We both came from lower middle class families and did everything we were supposed to in order to change our standard of living."

  • "I've owned my home for 30 years. But job, family, a warmer climate, and stupid spending by local government are all looking to give me a reason to move."

👎 No (61%) – "I (a younger millenial) had planned on buying something in 2021, but held off due to potential career plans that would move me cross country. I did end up moving in late 2022, but now I'm priced out of buying a home because of their exorbitant prices and high interest rates, even though I'm now in a lower cost of living state where I plan to be in the mid-to-long term. I won't be buying in the next five years, most likely."

  • "I have a low mortgage rate that may never be seen again for many years. If I had to move I would simply rent this house out as an income property. It’s hard to see a scenario in which I would ever sell it with such low carrying costs."

"I believe a recession is looming toward the end of the third quarter of 2024, and home prices and interest rates will fall. It's just a waiting game at this point in time."

  • "We're in our home for the long haul, largely because of the costs. We have a reasonable mortgage rate and a doable monthly payment. Our sons, however? They are in their late 20's and neither is even remotely able to buy a home for the foreseeable future."

"Just bought one a few years ago. I do think that there should be legislation limiting the impact of investment groups purchasing residential housing to then rent out, as that further decreases homes that can be purchased by families and exacerbates the increased home prices. It's making single families compete against wealthy entities in scenario that just makes it more difficult for the average American to own a home."

🤷 Unsure/other (18%) – "Because of the interest rates and the state of the real estate industry, It's hard to make any plans not knowing what the costs will be day to day. Or what will be on the market."

  • "if conditions are appropriate (housing availability, interest rates, sell existing home, new house payment), we will relocate and buy a new home."
