👍 Yes (34%) – "It's a great example of free markets working out. Decent product for consumers. Drivers can go do something else if they have better opportunities elsewhere."
"Keeping drivers classified as independent contractors makes sense - they are paid by project (delivery of person or item), not time; the company does not reimburse expenses like gas/mileage, etc.; and equipment used for the job is provided by the person completing the project, not the company. If people want to enter into a contract with a company like Uber/Lyft/DoorDash, I don't think they would like the oversight measures needed to be put into place to ensure work is being done how and when the company says it should be; companies have a right to define, track, and record those things if people are truly employees."
👎 No (33%) – "People deserve to be compensated fairly for their work. Unfortunately these companies will use this strike to pass more costs on to the consumer, likely with a notification in their app citing the need to pay their workers as the driver of increased prices."
"17.1% increase is too low and gig drivers can't make ends meet for college and retirement. They get paid chicken feed. Uber drivers are good decent and honest people. They don't deserve to be treated like Oliver Twist."
🤷 Unsure/other (33%) – "As a minor, this doesn’t really affect me, so I’ve never looked into this stuff. It seems like the drivers might have a point, but if they already earn $30 an hour? And they get to choose their own schedules? I don’t really feel like that kind of freedom comes without a few drawbacks. It was their choice to work for Lift, Uber, or whatever else."
"Morally speaking. I support unionization and workers getting their fair share. But, this to me is kind of like streaming services bundling their packages together. It makes me think ‘isn’t this what we had before’? If these services increase in price, why did we get rid of taxis? There has to be a middle ground somewhere but I’m not gonna be the one to find it."
