In general, do you support the pro-Palestinian student protests on college campuses?

👍 Yes (33%) – "The main reason I am voting this way is because free speech against the actions of the powerful is important. Also, accusations of anti-semitism must be proven. To silence those who want to stop slaughter should require a clear case of anti-semitism. Protesting against the Israeli state actions is not anti-semitism. Protesters are not against the Jewish religion nor the people. There is an illegal war being waged against Palestinians and it must be stopped."

  • "Being critical of the country of Israel, its government, and their policies is not the same as hating Jewish people. We have got to stop saying that criticism of Israel is anti-semetic. You can disagree with Israeli policy and not hate Jewish people."

"As long as these protests remain peaceful and reflect the need for two separate nations WITHOUT disparaging the Jewish faith, then these protests and their common demands are reasonable. Free speech- even what many consider hate speech- is covered under the 1st Amendment and students have a right to demand that places where they are spending their money reflect the demands of the population in attendance. As a caveat I will say that if theses protests become violent or disparaging of a particular group based upon religions, culture, ethnicity etc. then the schools have to shut them down."

  • "

👎 No (56%) – "The protests appear to include harassing, bullying, and threatening to some students of Jewish faith. They also appear to be disregarding rules / laws regarding locations, blocking of public spaces, etc. Also, they appear to contain a lot of anti-American tone."

  • "The Hamas which is protected and financed by Palestine attacked Israel, killing and taking Israelites hostage and Raping the women. Israel has not only the right, but is obligated to fight the Hamas. Palestinians are protecting and hiding the Hamas."

"Students can/should demand high quality (influence-free) educations. Students can/should demand safe environments to pursue their academic studies. Students have no right to demand ideological pathways of these government supported institutions. And the majority of these students have NO IDEA what they are protesting. They have been co-opted by an antisemitic, anti-western and evil movement."

  • "The problem isn't Israel, it's Hamas. Until the people of Palestine rise up against the militant group themselves, any aid or comfort is continuing to support Hamas."

"Words matter but actions speak louder than words. I will always support peaceful protests regardless of my opinion on the matter. In this case, Jewish students are being intimidated and bullied not by the existence of the protest but by the actions of the protesters. That is NOT okay. Jewish students are told to go home (by admins) to be safe from these protests. That itself should be enough for these protests to end. Every student deserves to feel safe on campus and the protesters are going out of their way to make these innocent students feel unsafe. Disgusting behavior. So no, I will not support these protests."

🤷 Unsure/other (11%) – "In general I support the right to protest, and am personally against the ongoing attacks in Gaza by Israel. The unfortunate thing I’ve seen from some individuals at the protests (and I do believe they’re individuals, not the general consensus) have branched their message into anti-Semitic territory. Where I struggle is how to allow the peaceful message of ending the attacks and death in Gaza while also making sure there are not anti-Semitic or violent threats against Jews here."
