In your opinion, should the US keep supplying weapons to Israel with little or no conditions?

👍 Yes (35%) – "The fact is that the US is the largest and most impactful of Israel's allies. To remove their access to weaponry, while they're fighting what is pretty clearly an existential fight, would cripple their ability to win. They've been taking rocket fire from Lebanon for years. Hezbollah's goals include the complete eradication of Israel, and Hezbollah is a driving force of the Lebanese government. Palestine's government, in essence run by Hamas, has proven again and again they will attack and push boundaries and commit murder, sexual violence, and acts of terror against innocent Israeli civilians. One of the primary purposes of government is the defense of their civilian population from outside forces. When that's taken as fact, and given their neighbors' historical and continued behavior, I absolutely support providing weapons to Israel. The best defense is a good offense, even when that looks pretty ugly."

  • "Israel is the only country in the world that faces scrutiny for defending itself. Israel is surrounded by enemies on all sides that want to exterminate its people. Israel is the only democracy in the middle east and the only country in the middle east that religious minorities can openly practice their religion."

"Israel suffered one of the worst terrorist attacks in its' history and they have the right to defend their country and their citizens - why wouldn't the US support them in that with weapons or other needed supplies? Hamas has made it abundantly clear that it doesn't intend to live peacefully with Israel, on top of their alignment with Iran which is a huge threat to peace in the Middle East. It's the equivalent of victim-blaming to denounce Israel's actions, and very hypocritical when the US did the exact same thing two decades ago. Hamas (a terrorist group, let's not forget!!) would see to it that Israel's population is wiped off the face of the earth; we are obliged to help make sure that doesn't happen."

  • "Israel can’t just defend itself, it has to eliminate the threat so the terrorist groups can’t strike ever again. While Israel is taking out civilians in the progress, the U.S. knows how hard it is to eliminate terrorist groups imbedded in the population. Civilians get hurt cause the evil men hide behind them. Also Ukraine’s pushing into Russian territory goes beyond defending itself, no longer trying to secure its own border but now launch offensives into Russia."

👎 No (51%) – "Enough. I get where Israel is coming from and support them. Oct 7, 2023, seared in my heart and mind. However, I believe Netanyahu is committing genocide in Gaza and I’m watching what’s happening in Lebanon. This centuries old conflict seems like it will continue until each side is annihilated. Netanyahu would like this to continue in order to stay out of jail."

  • "In my opinion, Israel is violating international law by invading Lebanon and by bombing civilian neighborhoods. They certainly have a right to protect themselves against terrorists but not at the expense of indiscriminately killing and wounding innocent people. At the same time, this behavior incites hate for Isreal throughout the entire Middle East. Secondly, our unconditional military support for Israel is seriously jeopardizing our relationships with all of the other Middle Eastern countries. Israel's behavior continues to incite violence in the Middle East which will inevitably escalate globally."

"I think we should continue supporting our allies. Israel is one of our allies, and they're under threat from all sides. However, the harm coming to civilians, the spreading violence and attacks in Lebanon, and possible intervention by Iran, means that we need to set some strong conditions on the use of our support. I think we need to send a strong signal to the entire region that we absolutely will support our allies in their defense, but we will not aid their aggressions. There's a big difference between a self-defense action and a war of aggression, and Israeli actions are leaning more and more towards aggression."

  • "No, the US should not keep doing what it's doing in regard to supplying weapons to Israel. It's futile to think anyone can bring about change in that area that has seen many decades of war and strife with seemingly no end in sight. I say let the region handle it's own problems and leave the US out of it."

"The deliberate violence towards palestinian people from the Isreali government is undeniable at this point. Isreal may have a right to defend itself, but it has abused the right of government by using its immense power to displace and destroy the Palestinian people. Besides, we already have too much government spending as it is."

🤷 Unsure/other (14%) – "It's a very hard call. On one hand, Israel was clearly attacked and has the right to defend itself – but when does that "defense" turn into unacceptable "offense?" We may be nearing that point, or already past it."
