In general, which of the following best describes your personal experience over the past 5-10 years?

I’ve been spending more time at home (57%) – "I work from home and most weeks leave the house only 2 or 3 times. Everything is so expensive now I can’t afford to leave the house. I can’t afford a second car and my partner has a job that has to be done in person. Most of my friend group has scattered to different cities during the pandemic because they could not afford Austin at all anymore and I make a six figure income and can barely afford to live here much less make going out a regular thing. Besides what is there to go out for? They are tearing down anything interesting and replacing it with national chains and condos."

• "I prefer being a homebody now -- I can get most of what I need ordered online or delivered, I have a baby now & any parent knows what a challenge it can be to get out, and working from home a couple days a week keeps me in my comfy pants not worried about having to go to the office"

"I'm not only spending more time at my home, but at the homes of my friends. We're trading time out in restaurants or doing activities for time-in going from home to home on a monthly basis. I'm actually more active with friends now than I was prior to the pandemic - I'm putting more focus on me and relationships than work!"

I’ve been spending more time outside of the home (16%) – "I had an older dog that kept me home. He recently passed away allowing me to leave the house more easily."

My time at home hasn’t changed significantly (27%) – "As someone that doesn't work from home, my life really went back to normal fairly quickly. A lot of the peers I spend time with are in the same boat so I think that also makes us leave the house more, we're already out during the day any way."

• "Although my life has changed significantly in the past 10 years (marriage, homeownership, children), my time at home hasn't changed significantly. I used to spend time outside the home doing things for fun or just because I had the free time, but now I'm more intentional about getting out of the house for the sake of our family. As I've gotten older, it's so much more appealing to me to be a homebody, but I know I'd be failing my children if they were confined to our house all the time with no chance to experience the zoo, local science discovery center, visiting family, or whatever other activity may present itself. It's important to me that I'm not a victim of the post-COVID "stay at home" trend; I choose to work in-office most days for that reason as well."
